504 families in Apayao affected by floodings caused by northeast monsoon
BAGUIO CITY, Dec. 30 (PNA) –The Apayao Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (APDRRMC) reported that a total of 504 families consisting of 923 individuals were affected by flooding in the province of Apayao due to continuous rains caused by the northeast monsoon (amihan).
Ten barangays (villages) were reported flooded in the province as 19 families with 61 individuals were evacuated to the Dagupan Barangay Hall, Palungcada, Luna as the Shalom creek continues to overflow.
The Apayao River reached its critical level, including eight other tributaries in Conner – three major rivers and five overflowing creeks.
Meanwhile, the Cordillera Region DRRMC received reports from the Department of Public Works and Highways – Cordillera Regional Office (DPWH-CAR) stating that seven roads in the region – four national roads, one provincial road, one municipal road and one bridge – have been closed due to rains.
The CRDRRMC and all provincial, municipal and barangay DRRMCs in the region remain under the “blue” alert level.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reports that the northeast monsoon will bring light to heavy rain showers in Apayao while isolated light to moderate rains will be experienced in the provinces of Kalinga, Ifugao and Mountain Province.
The province of Benguet, including Baguio City, will experience a cloudy weather while the province of Abra will have fair weather. (PNA)
