Greenwave International Co-Founder, Richard Lear, Shines Light on Emerging U.S. Health Crisis

Thirty-six “germless” diseases and chronic conditions have more than doubled in prevalence in the U.S. since 1990. More than 170 million Americans are now affected.

Greenwave International co-founder, Richard Lear, recently penned a landmark paper, suggesting there is a massive, mostly unrecognized health crisis underway in the United States. In his paper, “Root Cause in the Dramatic Rise of Chronic Disease,” Lear points to more than thirty-six diseases and chronic conditions, each of which more than doubled in prevalence between 1990 and 2015. Included are Alzheimer’s, autism, diabetes, leukemia, melanoma, multiple sclerosis (MS), obesity, hypertension, autoimmune disease, insomnia, sleep apnea, erectile dysfunction, anxiety, depression, bi-polar disorder, and more.

According to Lear, “This pandemic unfolded silently within a single generation. As a result, more than 170 million Americans are now affected at an annual economic cost of more than $2.7 trillion in increased health care costs, decreased productivity, lost wages, etc.” Lear estimates the thirty-six fast-growing diseases and chronic conditions cost ten times more than all cancers and cardiac conditions combined.

In his paper, Lear highlights four emerging categories of disease (neurological, auto-inflammatory, sleep insufficiency, and obesity), which may constitute a new era of illness in the U.S. The conditions within these disease categories are all “germless,” meaning they are not caused by biological pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, and the like. Instead, scientists believe they are triggered by factors in our diet, lifestyle, and environment. These so-called diseases of civilization have been associated with chemicals, high fructose corn syrup, pesticides, and electromagnetic fields (EMF).

The thirty-six fast-growing diseases and chronic conditions are largely incurable, but Lear’s paper gives us reason for optimism. Research, drawn primarily from US government websites (e.g., CDC, NCBI, Pubmed), reveals seven biomarkers that are common to all thirty-six conditions. This group of biomarkers, which Lear terms p-factor, includes peroxynitrite, oxidative stress, inflammation, mitochondrial dysfunction, nitrative stress, autonomic dysfunction, and epithelial/endothelial dysfunction. Lear suggests that the existence of a common biological profile triggered by specific environmental factors brings hope that prevention of these chronic conditions may be close at hand.
