SAE International Partners with DiverseNote to Provide Cybersecurity Education for Detroit Youth Program.
WARRENDALE, PA. (PRWEB) OCTOBER 17, 2019
SAE International announced today a renewed partnership with DiverseNote to offer cybersecurity education through the Keeping Our Networks Secure program for young adults attending the DiverseNote Mobility Early Career Program in Detroit. The DiverseNote Mobility Early Career Program is a pre-apprenticeship model program that serves youth and young adults through a six-week introduction to careers in fields such as Autonomous Technology, Cyber Security, Advanced Manufacturing and Robotics.
The partnership between SAE International and DiverseNote enables students to engage in Keeping Our Networks Secure, a key programmatic element of SAE International’s A World In Motion® (AWIM) STEM education program. As part of the cybersecurity challenge, students participate in simulations to see how information moves throughout the Internet, identify problems and develop solutions for enhanced safety and speed. The program deepens students’ understanding of the architecture of the Internet and how it was designed to withstand both physical and electronic attacks.
“SAE International values the work of DiverseNote to provide educational programming and we are proud to extend our partnership as the cybersecurity program provider for the DiverseNote Mobility Early Career Program summer program,” said Chris Ciuca, Director of Pre-Professional Education at SAE International. “The goals of our organizations are aligned as we aim to integrate STEM learning experiences into the classroom through hands-on activities.”
Participants who complete any of the DiverseNote Mobility Programs receive industry credentials, access to direct career opportunities with the best employers, college scholarships and long-term career management tools. To-date, the DiverseNote Mobility Programs have reached more than 700 students in Detroit and 2,000 nationally. The program has solicited support from more than 40 volunteers from local companies.
“Partnering with SAE International to implement AWIM into our youth and young adult programming has increased the access to high-growth industries and higher education opportunities that participants seek through DiverseNote Mobility programming,” said Tekisha Lee, President of DiverseNote.
SAE International’s AWIM program provides students with the skills needed to succeed in real-world work environments and helps connect their classroom learning with real-life applications. Students engage in the Engineering Design Experience, which includes setting goals, building knowledge, designing, building, testing and presenting their findings to an audience of peers and/or teachers. AWIM also provides professional development opportunities for teachers, through necessary trainings, all program materials and supplies, and the support of a STEM industry volunteer.
Volunteers/mentors are needed to help make the program a success. To volunteer for the DiverseNote Mobility programs, email [email protected]. For information about becoming involved with SAE’s A World In Motion, email [email protected].
