Bicol tourism moving forward in wake of typhoon ‘Nina’
MANILA, Dec. 28 (PNA) — A number of tourism destinations in the Bicol Region, particularly the badly-hit Catanduanes province, suffered damages from typhoon Nina (Nock Ten), but a tourism official is hopeful that recovery will come quick.
Department of Tourism Region V (DOT-V) Director Maria Ong Ravanilla said that among the destinations affected include CamSur Water Sports Complex, Caramoan Island, and Puraran Beach.
The CWC is a six-hectare watersports complex that hosts water sports such as cable skiing, waterskiing, wakeboarding to name a few.
Caramoan, dubbed as the province’s ‘secret paradise’, is an unspoiled island that is home to a 4,000 hectare limestone forest. It is visited by tourists for its white sand beaches, lakes, caves, and marine life.
The Puraran Beach, meanwhile, is home to surf camp perfect for first-time surfers.
“The last two are ecotourism sites that nature lovers and enthusiasts will (still) love to go to, while CWC is being run by the province and I am confident that the facilities will be restored soon,” Ravanilla told the Philippines News Agency.
“Resiliency is one character Bicolanos is known for. Typhoon comes and goes but we put our acts together to move forward,” she added.
At present, some areas in the region are still experiencing power interruptions and outages since Sunday (December 25).
Pres. Rodrigo Duterte with members of his Cabinet visited Virac, Catanduanes on Monday afternoon (December 26) to make an assessment and report on what needs to be done to help the typhoon-affected people.
The President assured the townsfolk that they will be given assistance before the New Year. (PNA)
