DSWD-Mimaropa continues to provide relief aid to ‘Nina’ victims
MANILA, Dec. 28 (PNA) — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reported on Wednesday that it continues to monitor the impact of Typhoon Nina and provide relief assistance to affected families in the Mimaropa region.
As of 3 a.m. on Wednesday, ‘Nina’ has affected 22,673 families or 48,426 individuals in 204 barangays in the provinces of Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro and Occidental Mindoro.
About 134 families or 538 persons are still staying in three evacuation centers while nine families or 48 persons are with their relatives and friends.
To date, the department’s regional office has identified 21 casualties — one fatality, 18 injured and two missing.
Meanwhile, the number of damaged houses in the region has increased to 20,666 — 16,710 were partially damaged, while 3,956 were totally damaged.
Based also on initial assessments, Marinduque and some municipalities in Oriental Mindoro are still without electricity.
A total of PHP470,260 in assistance has been provided to the affected families. Of the amount, PHP101,595 came from the DSWD and PHP368,665 from the local government unit (LGU).
Meanwhile, DSWD-Mimaropa assured that it has a stock of 43,870 family food packs in its warehouses, as well as a standby fund of PHP2,368,608.54.
It further assured that it will continue to coordinate with its partner-agencies and LGUs in monitoring the impact of ‘Nina’ and give updates on the status of relief assistance provided to affected families in the region.(PNA)
