DOE Sec. Cusi Joins the Building Green 2020 Digital Conference

TAGUIG CITY – The Department of Energy (DOE), as one of the national government partners of the Philippine Green Building Council (PhilGBC), joins the celebration of the Green Building Month through the Council’s first virtual episode of the Building Green 2020 (BG2020) Digital Conference yesterday (8 September).

In his keynote address, Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi underscored PhilGBC’s exceptional initiatives in promoting green building practices.

“This digital conference brings the government and private sector together to champion energy efficiency and conservation (EEC), that will help pave the way for the nation’s economic recovery and development,” Secretary Cusi added.

With the theme, “Conserve + Optimize + Renew = Zero”, BG2020 is consistent with the DOE’s goal to realize the vision of Republic Act 11285, or the EEC Act, particularly in transforming EE&C as a national way of life. Through the EE&C Act, high-energy consumers, such as the commercial, industrial, and even the transportation sectors have been empowered to utilize energy responsibly.

“I am very optimistic that the PhilGBC will continue in advocating our call to conscious consumption and further developments of sustainable and green building for the future generations to come,” Secretary Cusi emphasized.

Secretary Cusi has endorsed to President Rodrigo R. Duterte, the recommendation declaring 8 September as "National Green Building Day”, which will strengthen the promotion and establishment of energy efficient and green buildings in the country.

Energy Utilization Management Bureau Director Patrick T. Aquino is set to deliver a presentation on the current programs under the EEC for the second virtual episode of BG2020 today (9 September). His discussion will cover the overview of the EEC Act of 2019 and its Implementing Rules and Regulations, and updates on the Guidelines for Energy Conserving Design for Buildings; Program on Minimum Energy Performance and Labelling; and other programs related to the use of green energy technologies for buildings.
