ERC, NEA MUST COME DOWN HARD ON UNJUST ELECTRICITY DISTRIBUTORS
[No service disconnections until January 31, 2021]
Both the Energy Regulatory Commission and the National Electrification Administration must act motu propio on the many complaints of consumers about their electricity bills, payments, disconnection notices, and the persistent power supply disruptions.
Hindi sila dapat magpadaig sa mayayamang electricity companies at cooperatives. Marapat gamitin ng ERC at NEA ang bangis ng batas para ipagtanggol ang naaagrabyadong consumers.
Aside from sparing electricity consumers from service disconnections until January 31, 2021, which I am asking the ERC and NEA to do, these agencies should impose penalties against electricity distributors who fail our consumers with intensely incompassionate policies and services.
I implore the IATF to make the “no disconnection” as its unequivocal policy so that no MSMEs or retail consumers will have to needlessly suffer amidst the pandemic.
BROWNOUTS SA MGA PROBINSIYA
Gross injustice against consumers is inflicted, especially in the provinces where brownouts and other disruptions are a daily hardship.
Hindi lang po mahinang internet signal ang malaking hadlang sa online learning ng mga estudyante at contactless e-payments para naman sa mga entrepreneur at nagtatrabaho.
Mas matagal at mas laganap na problema ang mahinang klaseng serbisyo ng mga electric cooperative sa mga probinsiya.
Nakakaawa po ang mga mamamayan natin lalo na sa Mimaropa, Soccsksargen, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, at Calabarzon.
Brownouts and power interruptions are daily and weekly hardships in the provinces.
SYSTEMIC WOES
Low levels of investment, lack of competition, and poor management are the underlying causes of the electricity reliability problems in the countryside.
Mas nauna pang problema itong hindi maaasahang serbisyo sa supply ng kuryente kasya mahinang internet.
Ilang henerasyon na ang problemang ito na sana’y matuldukan na.
Opening up the electricity generation and distribution sector is the only effective solution to this.
We need more solar and wind power and mini-hydro power generation in the provinces.
We need alternatives to coal, gas, and diesel-fueled power plants. (END)
