New role positions nationwide network of premier co-working laboratory spaces for growth.
CAMBRIDGE, MASS. (PRWEB) AUGUST 01, 2019
John R. Freeman, CPA, has joined BioLabs as Chief Financial Officer. His appointment was announced by Johannes Fruehauf, MD, PhD, founder and president of BioLabs, which provides premier co-working spaces for life science startups in the most dynamic biotech hubs.
“We created the CFO role to strengthen our ability to forecast and manage growth,” says Fruehauf. “BioLabs has expanded to 10 locations in just a few years, and we’re evaluating opportunities to enter new strategic markets. John’s expertise in financial forecasting, strategic planning and alliance management are the right combination of skills to add to our leadership team at this pivotal time.”
Freeman is an experienced tax accountant who has served in leadership roles at both venture-backed and international organizations, including most recently as CFO of the London-based digital health company Lumeon. He worked with Swiss-based Geneva Group International, an alliance of professional services firms that fosters global relationships, and led the Boston office of Tonneson + Co, a certified public accounting and consulting firm.
Freeman says he is intrigued by the opportunity to help BioLabs achieve additional dramatic growth. “We are at a unique intersection of real estate, venture capital and the biotech world, providing both operational support and a range of services. BioLabs was started by entrepreneurs and remains focused on providing scientific founders with the space and support systems they need to use their capital efficiently. It’s inspiring to be part of the journey that results in new therapies for patients,” he says.
He is looking forward to visiting the BioLabs offices around the country and meeting the staff and resident companies. “BioLabs has a diverse landscape, interesting people and a very exciting roadmap forward. I can make a difference by listening, creating processes and building governance, while maintaining the entrepreneurial culture that allows smart, capable self-starters to thrive,” he says.
An avid runner, Freeman recently completed the London marathon. He looks forward to logging some miles along the Charles River during breaks in his schedule at BioLabs’ Cambridge headquarters.
