Bureau of Customs Port of Cebu collects PHP18.3B in 2016
CEBU CITY, Dec. 30 (PNA) — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) Port of Cebu has collected a total of PHP18.3 billion for 2016, surpassing of whoe year target of PHP17.2 billion by PHP1.1 billion, an official said.
Cebu District Collector Rico Rey Francis “Koko” Holganza said they are happy because there will be more money for the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte to finance infrastructure projects.
Holganza said this is also an indication that Cebu’s economy continues to grow.
The collection performance of the BOC district and its sub-ports of Mactan and Dumaguete from Jan. 1 to Dec. 8 already hit the PHP17.2 billion annual target.
As of Dec. 23, the target for the month was already realized.
As of Dec. 27, there was already more than PHP1 billion in excess against the annual target.
The frontliners of BOC Cebu, including the sub-ports of Mactan and Dumaguete, worked hard to achieve this feat, said chief cashier Conrado Abarintos.
He said the top importer of the year is Therma Visayas Inc. (TVI), which is engaged in coal-fired power generation.
From January to December, TVI paid PHP1.376 billion in duties and taxes.
The others in the list of top 10 importers are Seaoil Philippines, PHP929.5 million; SteelAsia Manufacturing Corp., PHP515.7 million; Ecoessential Foods Corp., PHP470.3 million; Cebu Energy Development Corp. (CEDC), PHP305.8 million; Megawide Construction Corp., PHP297.6 million; Apo Cement Corp., PHP286.8 million; Kepco SPC Power Corp., PHP255.4 million; Taiheiyo Cement Philippines Corp., PHP238.9 million; and Green Geothermal Inc., PHP224.3 million.
