Opening new markets and driving innovation synergies between North American organizations and Australian science

CSIRO US, the North American innovation center for CSIRO, Australia’s pre-eminent national science organization, celebrated its third year led by rapid momentum:
● Grew North American presence to ten employees in three offices: Silicon Valley, Washington DC, and New York City.
● Developed over 100 scientific open innovation opportunities.
● Participate in US visits of Australian Government Dignitaries including Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison; Premier of South Australia Steven Marshall; Foreign Minister Julie Bishop of Australian Trade and Investment Commission; Karen Andrews Australian Minister for Industry, Science and Technology; and Anthony Murfett, Deputy Head of the Australian Space Agency.
● Introduced Lockheed Martin Ventures and Boeing Horizon X Ventures to Main Sequence Ventures, which resulted in investments made in Australian start-ups.

In its role as the gateway for North American organizations to access the over 5,000 CSIRO scientists, CSIRO US evaluates potential synergies to solve global challenges in a wide range of fields ranging from Agtech, Health Care to Space Commercialization.
Over the past three years, CSIRO US has established partnerships with the University of California at Davis, Argonne National Laboratory, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, NASA Ames Research Center, ExxonMobil, and the International Space Station (ISS), to name a few.
In addition to the science we already deliver, CSIRO has launched a Challenges and Missions program, aimed at making significant breakthroughs in areas such as plastic pollution. We are undertaking major scientific and collaborative research programs across the plastic supply chain from creation to disposal and recycling, and connecting with organizations to ensure our science and knowledge is used to create solutions that lead to change.
