Educ dept reports heavy damage in 5 schools in Catanduanes
MANILA, Dec. 28 (PNA) — The Department of Education reported Wednesday that five public schools in Catanduanes province were heavily damaged by Typhoon Nina.
The department said the buildings and roofs of the Bote Integrated School, Sto. Domingo Elementary School, Jose Rizal Elementary School, Caramoan School of Fisheries, and Cabcab Elementary School require repair, while their furniture need replacement.
It said the Bote Integrated School’s learning materials and computers were also damaged.
The department, through its Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Service, is currently gathering assessment reports from other sites.
Education Secretary Leonor Briones has inspected public schools in Virac, Catanduanes and Pili, Camarines Sur with President Rodrigo Duterte.
On Tuesday, the department reported that 118 schools currently serve as evacuation centers for 4,050 families in the regions of Bicol, Mimaropa and Calabarzon. (PNA)
