No threats monitored yet for Black Nazarene feast
MANILA, Jan. 2 (PNA) — With the annual Black Nazarene Procession just seven days away, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) announced that it is still to detect any security threats that might mar the yearly celebration.
However, this does not mean that the military will cutdown or reduce its vigilance, AFP chief-of-staff Lt. Gen. Eduardo Año said.
“We’re not monitoring any threat but we are now preparing to secure the Black Nazarene Procession (which will fall on Jan. 9, a Monday) as a lot of people are expected to attend there,” he added in Filipino.
This is despite the recent improvised explosive device attacks in Leyte and North Cotabato late December.
However, Año urged all devotees to report anything suspicious to authorities.
The AFP chief added that the public’s vigilance is very beneficial in preventing security incidents. (PNA)
