PNP-ACG nabs suspect in sextortion in Quezon City
MANILA, Dec. 28 (PNA) — The Philippine National Police-Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG) has arrested a 34-year old man in a sextortion case in Baesa, Quezon City.
The suspect later identified as Jeffrey Sungahid was arrested while he was collecting the money from a remittance center sent by his victim through online transaction.
According to the victim, he came to know Sungahid in the Facebook, who introduced himself as a woman until they came across in the “Wechat” and had a live sexchat.
Since the suspect has recorded the video of the live sexchat with the victim, he used it to threaten the victim that he would proliferate on the social media if he would not give money to the suspect.
At first, the suspect demanded money from the victim ranging from PHP2,000 to PHP3,000 twice a week until it became frequent and was made daily.
The victim has given Sungahid a total of PHP50,000, which prompted him to file a complaint before the PNP-ACG.
The PNP-ACG conducted the entrapment operation in Baesa, Quezon City on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Sungahid, he only needed the money and he saw from the victim the opportunity to blackmail and extort money.
However, PNP-ACG spokesman Supt. Jay Guillermo on Wednesday said that they do not believe this was the first time that Sungahid had victimized through sextortion, hence, they will have his cellphone undergo technical forensic.
The PNP-ACG also warned the public to refrain from immediately befriending nor trusting anyone on the internet. (PNA)
