Charm Sciences, Inc. is pleased to announce that ready-to-drink (RTD) coffee beverages have been validated on the Charm EPIC Microbial ATP System for use as a rapid microbial release test. Extensive testing was performed with over ten different microbial strains, all of which the EPIC successfully detected in a wide array of RTD coffee products, including black coffees, coffees with dairy creamer, and coffees with plant-based creamer.
“The RTD coffee beverage market is growing rapidly and demand for the product is high,” says Tetyana Shulyak, PhD, lead scientist for EPIC research and development at Charm Sciences. “The EPIC system helps companies keep up with this increasing demand by allowing them to safely release their products to the market days sooner than was previously possible.” While standard microbial testing takes 7 to 15 days, the EPIC system accurately detects microbial contamination within three days.
RTD caffeinated beverages join a wide variety of beverage types that have been validated on the EPIC system, including dairy milk to heavy cream, flavored milks, lactose-free milk, condensed milks, plant-nut based beverages (almond, cashew, coconut, oat, soy), ice cream and shake mixes, broths, nutraceutical beverages and infant formulas.
