MOST PRIVATE SCHOOLS ARE SMALL, NEED COVID-19 AID TO REOPEN, KEEP THEIR TEACHERS, STAFF
I ask the DOLE, DOF, and DepEd to extend their COVID-19 financial aid to cover the teachers and staff of the small private schools.
These private schools employ about 500 thousand nationwide according to their associations. They are in neighborhoods the public schools do not reach. They are mostly kindergartens and missionary schools of local churches and mosques.
There is already an institution in place, the Fund for Assistance to Private Education (FAPE). Many of these small schools are part of the Education Service Contracting (ESC) Program of the DepEd. FAPE and ESC have existing databases that can be used to identify beneficiaries.
Massive unemployment would certainly happen if the national government does not urgently respond now. (END)
