‘Nina’ affected families in 4 regions now at 424,223

MANILA, Jan. 1 (PNA) — As of Dec. 31, the number of families displaced and affected by Typhoon “Nina” has climbed to 424,223 families or around 1,893,404 persons residing in 1,698 barangays in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan, and Regions 5 and 8.

This was disclosed by National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) executive director Ricardo Jalad in their update.

Of these, 46,798 families or 229,901 persons are still being served in 280 evacuation centers while another four families or 20 persons are being helped outside government evacuation centers.

Jalad said a total of 98,771 families or 487,825 individuals were pre-emptively evacuated before “Nina’s” onslaught last Dec. 25 and 26 in Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Regions 5 and 8.

He added that three persons were reported killed and another 21 missing in these regions.

A total of 248,788 houses were reported damaged in Calabarzon, Mmimaropa, and Region 5.

Of these, 181,442 are partially damaged and 67,346 totally damaged.

Damage to infrastructure and agriculture was placed at PHP5.1 billion in Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and Region 5.

These can be broken down into PHP4.1 billion for agriculture and PHP1 billion for infrastructure. (PNA)
