SAE International today announced that Dr. Mehdi Ahmadian, the Dan Pletta Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Tech, is the recipient of the 2019 SAE/Magnus Hendrickson Innovation Award.
“Dr. Ahmadian is an internationally recognized leader in his field and represents the true spirit of the SAE/Magnus Hendrickson Innovation Award,” said Lori Gatmaitan, SAE Foundation Director. “With more than 35 years of research, development and engineering related to suspension systems and vehicle dynamics in both industry and academia, we are thrilled to honor Dr. Ahmadian with this award.”
The SAE International award honors Magnus Hendrickson, the renowned inventor and businessman who founded the Hendrickson Motor Truck Company in 1913. The award recognizes an individual or team whose research creates significant, positive change and elevates vehicle dynamics to new levels of innovation.
At Virginia Tech, Dr. Ahmadian is also the Director of the Center for Vehicle Systems and Safety (CVeSS) and the Railway Technologies Laboratory (RTL). He is an active SAE member who serves on several SAE committees, including the Executive Council for Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress (COMVEC) and SAE Executive Nominating Committee.
Dr. Ahmadian has authored more than 400 refereed publications, delivered more than 300 technical presentations, and holds 11 U.S. and international patents. He currently serves as editor-in-chief for the Journal of Vibration and Control and editor for the International Journal of Vehicle System Dynamics.
