Bacolod City to stage 3-part New Year’s Eve countdown event

BACOLOD CITY, Dec. 30 (PNA) –- The City of Bacolod will hold a three-part activity during the New Year’s Eve that will be capped by fireworks display in a countdown to 2017.

“A Celebration of Excellence” will also be held to honor achievers from Bacolod. The program will be held at 8 p.m. at the Bacolod City Government Center grounds.

Another activity is the “Salute to the Seniors,” which will launch the “Malipayon nga Kaadlawan, Lolo kag Lola” program that will provide senior citizens with birthday cakes.

The final part is the countdown to the New Year.

Meanwhile, 18 individuals and groups will be given medals and certificates for bringing honors to the city in the past year.

The awardees include the following:

Manny Montelibano, one of the four artists whose works represented the Philippines in the Venice Biennale along with those of Manuel Conde, Botong Francisco, and Tence Ruiz;

David Villanueva of Peacock Fireworks, grand prize winner of the 1st Mayor Evelio R. Leonardia Fireworks Display National Competitions;

Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod (CSA-B) Kagayon Dance Troupe and choreographer Georgette Sanchez-Vargas, winner of Sayaw Pinoy National Dance competitions, a project of the NationalCommission for Culture and the Arts;

Leanna Mishka Cuansing, winner of the Philippine Dance Cup Joy Coronel award given to the most exceptional young female ballet;

Carl Malone Montecido, Tawag ng Tanghalan finalist;

Ismael Java, second and third placer, Ilonggo Poetry; and third placer, Flash Fiction, Peter Solis Nery International Literary Writing Competitions;

CSA-B Kanlaon Theatre Guild led by director/scriptwriter Ricardo Salanap Jr., awarded one of the Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations of the Philippines by the National Youth Commission;

Roy Basa of the Negros Occidental High School, awarded Most Outstanding Teacher of the Philippines by the Metrobank Foundation;

Board topnotchers Ma. Fatima Ofracio, Bacolod City College graduate, ninth placer, Licensure Examinations for Teachers-Elementary Level; Julio Zayco, CSA-B graduate, ninth placer, Psychometricians’ exams; Karen Pedrera, Riverside College, 10th placer, Psychometricians’ Exams; Hazel May Tan, CSA-B, ninth placer, Nursing Lisensure Exams; Bryan Amiel Brey, University of St. La Salle, 10th placer, Nursing Licensure Exams.

Mother-and-daughter tandem Dr. Edna Fregil who was awarded Ulirang Guro, a national contest for Filipino teachers, and Sarah Fregil, ninth placer in the Teachers’ Board exams. Both are from La Consolacion College-Bacolod.

Sum-ag National High School and Barangay Granada, MassKara Festival streetdance competition winners along with the participating barangays in the MassKara street dance competitions in October.(PNA)
