Cogswell College MediaWorks designs official online branding piece for iCivics

MediaWorks at Cogswell Polytechnical College had the amazing opportunity to design an official online branding piece for iCivics, a major U.S. non-profit.

MediaWorks is one of four brands in Cogswell’s Real World Project Studios™, where students produce impressive, professional work for businesses in Silicon Valley and beyond. Students from Cogswell College’s Audio & Music Technology and Digital Art & Animation departments are involved in real-life client projects, which include all aspects of full-scale production. iCivics, Inc., a non-profit organization, founded in 2008 by retired Supreme Court of the United States Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, provides educational online games and lesson plans to promote civics education, encouraging students to become active citizens.[1] iCivics’ stated mission is to “ensure every student receives a high-quality civic education, and becomes engaged in – and beyond – the classroom.” [2] iCivics serves approximately 200,000 educators and over 5 million students nationwide, including half of all middle school social studies classrooms in America. MediaWorks was responsible for creating an audiovisual branding piece for iCivics, starting from concept proposals and going through all stages of a full-scale, short-form animated production project complete with original music, original sound design and narration.

“The Cogswell MediaWorks students were an impressive group. Without hesitation, they took on the challenge of creating an animated video representation of the impact that iCivics has on students, teachers, and their communities. Throughout the ideation process, the students were professional, attentive to our brand voice, and confidently presented and led us through each phase of the video creation. The final product is polished and it provides us with a fresh, compelling new way to tell the iCivics story. I want to thank Cogswell for its significant contribution to our organization!” says Louise Dubé, Executive Director of iCivics.

“Branding, teaching, and inspiration – all in the same 60-second piece; this would be a challenge to any agency, and it was a beautiful learning opportunity for the MediaWorks students,“ says Cogswell College Distinguished Professor of Audio & Music Technology, Julius Dobos.
