NBI SHOULD PROBE CYBERATTACKS, UNMASK TROLLS AND THEIR FINANCIERS, CLIENTS
As the Vice-Chair of the Committee on Public information, I ask the National Bureau of Investigation should investigate and file criminal charges against all who are behind the wide scale and rampant creation of dummy, fake Facebook accounts of real persons these past several days.
These cybercriminals must be unmasked before the public. The exact locations of their troll farms and hideouts must be uncovered.
The identities of their financiers and clients should be exposed.
Cyberattack victims suspect trolls and hackers are at work, doing these seemingly coordinated cybercrimes.
Victims must be vigilant against the dark figures lurking in the cyberspace who steal their identities and try to sow fear.
I also call on Facebook (FB) to conduct thorough investigation on this incident, and to immediately inform the public about their findings in order to de-escalate the tension among netizens. As one of the biggest technology company in the world, facebook must come up with a stricter mechanism that will facilitate the checking of fake accounts and their immediate removal, even absent any report.
I strongly condemn this detestable act of identity theft and whoever are behind this must immediately be brought to justice.
Under the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, computer-related Identity theft is the intentional acquisition, use, misuse, transfer, possession, alteration or deletion of identifying information belonging to another, whether natural or juridical, without right.
Clearly, those who created these bogus accounts must be held liable for computer-related identity theft and be meted with the corresponding penalty and/or fine. (END)
