Gateway Genomics Ranks No. 17 in the Inc. 5000 Series: California’s Fastest-Growing Private Companies for 2020

With a two-year revenue increase of 861%, Gateway Genomics emerged as the fastest-growing biotech company in California.

Gateway Genomics, a leading developer of direct-to-consumer genetic tests that give families insight into their future children, was recognized in last year’s annual Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies in the United States. In this year’s Inc. 5000 California list, Gateway Genomics rose to be the 17th fastest-growing private company in the state, and #1 in the Health sector.

“California has many heavy hitters in the biotech industry,” says Gateway Genomics CEO, Chris Jacob. “To attain the top ranking in the state where Illumina, Genomic Health, and Guardant Health were born and launched is a strong achievement, and a testament to the vision of the company, which is to unlock previously inaccessible prenatal and pediatric genetic information, to help parents give their children the best lives possible.”

The company’s flagship product, the SneakPeek Early Gender DNA Test, is designed to specifically focus on fetal sex and return just one answer – male or female. The test is available in two ways: An At-Home version that can be ordered from an ecommerce website and taken at home, and a Clinical version that is offered in over 500 participating locations. Both can be taken at 8 weeks into pregnancy, providing gender results with 99.1% accuracy in as little as 48 hours. The company is planning additional DNA-based tests later this year that will give parents a window of insight into their developing child.

To qualify for the California list, companies must have had $100,000 in revenue in 2016, and ranking was determined by percentage revenue growth between 2016 to 2018. With 861% revenue growth from 2016 to 2018, Gateway Genomics ranked #17 in the list, and #1 in the Health sector.

“The companies on this list demonstrate just how much the small-business sector impacts California’s economy,” says Inc. editor in chief Scott Omelianuk. “Across every single industry, these businesses have posted revenue and growth rates that are beyond impressive, further proving the tenacity of their founders and CEOs.”
