International Paleontologist Dr. Martin Sander to Present Latest Findings on Ichthyosaur Research
SPARKS, NEV. (PRWEB) FEBRUARY 21, 2020
Great Basin Brewing Co., Nevada’s most award-winning brewery, is continuing their partnership with the National Geographic Society, the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, the University of Bonn in Germany and the German Research Foundation to present the latest ichthyosaur research from Dr. Martin Sander. He will be revealing the team’s newest discoveries made from Nevada to China.
Founder and brewmaster of Great Basin Brewing Co., Tom Young, possesses a true passion to foster understanding of the Earth and these once-majestic beasts. Paired with his curiosity for Nevada’s fossils is his endless love of craft beer. To honor and support both efforts, Great Basin Brewing Co. has proudly brewed their award-winning Ichthyosaur “Icky” IPA® since 1993.
“Nevada offers a unique glimpse of what our planet was like over 200 million years ago,” explains Young. “The Nevada high-desert we call home today, was once at the bottom of a shallow primordial ocean.”
Great Basin Brewing Co. has supported paleontological expeditions in Nevada for over 10 years. To date the brewery has donated over $50,000 as well as labor and beer, including transporting ichthyosaur fossils in their beer truck through the backroads of Nevada to the Natural History Museum in Los Angeles.
This year, Great Basin Brewing Co. and their partners are honored to host the Icky Expedition Party, a party and fundraiser to assist the continuing research of Nevada’s Ichthyosaurs. The event will be held at the brewery’s production facility, Great Basin Taps & Tanks in Reno, NV. Doors open at 5:00 PM and the presentation will begin at 6:30 PM. Dr. Martin Sander will present the latest findings and reveal the answers to many sought after questions, like why the biggest Ichthyosaurs in the world have been found in Nevada and how they compare to others found in China.
There will be food for purchase, as well as games, like 4-person team Pin-the-Tail on the Ichthyosaur, plenty of prizes, live music and more. Fans are encouraged to reserve their free ticket on the brewery’s website, greatbasinbrewing.com. A suggested donation of $10 will be collected at the door to help support upcoming expeditions and the preservation of new fossils.
Along with Great Basin Brewing Co., sponsors of this expedition include; The University of Bonn, DFG German Research Foundation, the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, the National Geographic Society, and the German Research Foundation.
