Karen and Gary Evensen have teamed up to complete their new book “Understanding Weather”: an illustrated book featuring in-depth meteorology information for children who want to know more about the world they live in.
“Truth be told, this was a high school project for our daughter Kellie, that turned into a fun project for Mom and Dad,” Karen Evensen said of the origin of her family’s new book. “This was a number of years ago, so we don’t remember all of the details.”
Published by Page Publishing, the Evensen Family’s work breaks down some of the confusing scientific aspects of meteorology into easily understood diagrams and vivid illustrations. Through its simple but fun language, the book attempts to reach young readers on their level.
By following a boy named Jerry, the book shares what he learned in school when a meteorologist comes to class and explains some of the symbols they use on TV when tracking the weather. Each page blends the vernacular of scientists with the thoughts and emotions of a child so as to teach as well as engage readers along the way.
