Ingrown Toenail Removal Options:
There are three types of ingrown toenail removal that are routinely performed.

1) Medical Pedicure:

  • A medical pedicure consists of using specialized sterile instruments are used for cleaning and shortening thick and fungal toenails.
  • The next step is maintaining proper moisturizing of a patient’s feet. The patient is evaluated for any decreased blood flow, any nerve disorders, any skin disorders.
  • This is not a cosmetic medical pedicure excavation point. This is specifically based on medical standards.

2) Ingrown Toenail Removal Treatment

  • To remove an ingrown toenail to the root, it would be necessary to use local anesthetic to avoid feeling pain.
  • If there is infection present, a wound culture can be taken to make sure there were not any abnormal bacteria growing.
  • If there are signs of significant infection, an antibiotic can be offered.

3) Permanent Ingrown Toenail Removal

  • Another name for this is a total matrixectomy.
  • If an ingrown toenail comes back more than 2-3x times, it may be worth it to apply medication to the root of the removed toenail.
  • This is much less likely to allow the toenail to ever go back.
  • Once this is performed, it is very unlikely for a nail to come back soon.
