‘Nina’-affected families nearly reach 2-M mark

MANILA, Jan. 2 (PNA) — The number of families affected by the onslaught of typhoon “Nina” has reached the 446,496 mark or 1,986,960 persons.

These individuals are residing in 1,769 barangays in CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Regions 5 and 8, National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) executive director Ricardo Jalad said in their update Monday.

Of these, around 46,854 families are still being served outside and inside 282 government operated evacuation centers in CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, and Regions 5 and 8.

These can be broken down into 46,850 families still in evacuation centers and four families outside but still receiving help from the government.

The NDRRMC chief said the number of families pre-emptively evacuated prior the onslaught of “Nina” last Dec. 25 and 26 is placed at 98,771 families or around 487,825 individuals in CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, and Regions 5 and 8.

Three persons were confirmed dead and another 21 still missing in the above-mentioned regions due to the typhoon.

Number of houses damaged in CALABARZON, MIMAROPA and Region 5 were placed at 248,380.
