PAINWeek 2019 Welcomes the International Myopain Society

Two 2-hour courses will address the number one cause of chronic pain worldwide, myofascial pain, on Saturday, September 7.

Joining PAINWeek, the largest US pain conference for frontline practitioners, the International Myopain Society will be presenting two 2-hour courses on Saturday, September 7. PAINWeek faculty members James Fricton, DDS, MS, President of the International Myopain Society (IMS), and Ginevra Liptan, MD, an IMS Board Member and Pain Specialist, will lead these skills training courses, Transformative Care for Myopain: Enhancing Long-Term Success in Myofascial Pain and Fibromyalgia, parts 1 and 2. Centered on managing myofascial pain, which is the most common pain condition worldwide, faculty will discuss transformative care for preventing chronic pain and addiction. That transformative care smoothly integrates self-management training with treatment by teaming with a telehealth coach and on-line digital technology.

Dr. Liptan states, “For far too long, medicine has neglected the contribution of the fascia as a pain generator in all types of chronic pain including fibromyalgia, back pain, headache, and orofacial pain. Addressing the myofascial component can be the missing link to effective treatment for many challenging chronic pain conditions, and I am excited to join Dr. Fricton in sharing these strategies in this workshop.”

Dr. Fricton commented, “I look forward to joining Dr. Liptan in sharing cutting edge clinical knowledge about both myofascial pain and how to prevent chronic pain and addiction with the patient-centered transformative care model using the NIH funded PACT [Patient Aligned Care Teams] program. In both sessions participants will learn basic strategies to gain successful long-term outcomes in patients with pain conditions without relying on opioid medications.”

PAINWeek convenes its 13th annual meeting on September 3-7 at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. The 5-day conference presents a diverse curriculum into the 5-day agenda that will encompass over 120 hours of content across multiple course concentrations: acute, behavioral, integrative, and interventional pain management; chronic pain syndromes; medical/legal issues; neurology; palliative care; and pharmacotherapy, along with master classes, satellite events, and over 30 Special Interest Sessions. Full-day programs will be presented by the American Headache Society, and the International Pelvic Pain Society. The expansive curriculum is geared toward physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, hospitalists, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals involved in pain management.
