Security in Caraga tightened for New Year celebrations

Butuan City, Dec. 31 (PNA) — The Caraga regional police and Agusan del Norte’s Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) have held an emergency security meeting as part of safety measures for the New Year celebrations and following the series of explosions in some parts of the country.

In its press release issued Friday, the Caraga police’s information office said the Caraga police, in coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines and other support units and force multipliers in the region, was instructed to deploy its full force of patrollers and K9 units in places where an influx of people is expected.

It said security patrols will be beefed up at the airports, seaports, piers, bus and jeepney terminals, malls, public markets, carnivals, churches, plazas, resorts and other areas of convergence.

Caraga Police director, Chief Supt. Rolando Felix, has called on the public to be vigilant and report to the authorities suspicious persons or activities, as well as unattended and abandoned baggage, boxes and other suspicious materials. (PNA)
