The American Headache Society and The International Pelvic Pain Society to Present Tracks at PAINWeek 2019

AHS and IPPS, Popular Returning Tracks with New, Relevant, and Dynamic Courses

This September, two popular tracks will return to the 13th annual PAINWeek National Conference in Las Vegas. On Wednesday, September 4, the International Pelvic Pain Society (IPPS) track returns with a full day of courses for physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, clinical nurse specialists, and other frontline clinicians. On Thursday, September 5, the American Headache Society will present its Migraine Education Program.

Chair of the IPPS Board of Directors, Georgine Lamvu, MD, MPH, FACOG, CPE, commented, “Female specific pain syndromes are often overlooked despite the fact that all chronic pain syndromes are more prevalent in women. For the 3rd year, PAINWeek and IPPS members will join forces to highlight best care practices for vaginal and pelvic pain syndromes in this underserved group of patients.” Dr. Lamvu will present The Golden Girls Dilemma: Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM). Although GSM-like symptoms occur in 15% of premenopausal women and 40% to 54% of postmenopausal women, the condition is associated with social stigma and often remains ignored or underdiagnosed.

Colleen M. Fitzgerald, MD, President of IPPS, commented, “I am super excited to join PAINWeek again representing the International Pelvic Pain Society and our comprehensive multidisciplinary panel. My focus will be on musculoskeletal implications in pelvic pain.” Her course is titled Let’s Get Physical! Musculoskeletal Pelvic Pain. Past President Sawsan As-Sanie, MD, MPH, will present The BIG BANG of Pain: Chronic Overlapping Pain Syndrome in Women. Rounding out the IPPS track: IPPS Director Jorge F. Carrillo, MD, and The Force is With You: Mind Tricks for Chronic Pain Patients.

The 2-part American Headache Society Migraine Education Program will be presented by Larry Charleston IV, MD, MSc, FAHS; Scott Powers, PhD, ABPP, FAHS; and Angeliki Vgontzas, MD. Dr. Charleston commented, “Headache is one of the most common disorders that pain health providers are entrusted to manage. The American Headache Society is pleased to participate and share information from our Migraine Education Program during PAINWeek 2019! Recent FDA-approved treatments for migraine, in part, highlight the complex pathophysiology of the disorder and offer the potential to improve patient outcomes in this highly prevalent disease.”

PAINWeek, the largest US pain conference for frontline practitioners, convenes its 13th annual meeting on September 3-7 at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. The 5-day conference presents a diverse curriculum of 120+ hours across multiple course concentrations: acute, behavioral, and interventional pain management; chronic pain syndromes; medical/legal issues; neurology; palliative care; and pharmacotherapy, along with over 30 Special Interest Sessions. In addition to the societies above, the International Myopain Society will present a full-day program. The expansive curriculum is geared toward physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, pharmacists, hospitalists, psychologists, and other healthcare professionals involved in pain management.
