Weather Source Brings Big Weather Data to AWS Data Exchange

Weather Source, a leading provider of past, present and forecast weather data, recently made OnPoint Weather available through AWS Data Exchange

Weather Source, a leading technology provider of weather & climate data recently made its OnPoint Weather available in AWS Data Exchange, a new service that makes it easy for millions of Amazon Web Services (AWS) customers to securely find, subscribe to, and use third-party data in the cloud.

Though the AWS Data Exchange users now have on-demand secure access to OnPoint Weather which is a continuum of weather back to the year 2000 to present and with a forecast view of 15 days. OnPoint Weather allows users the ability to quickly correlate business information with weather data for useful and actionable business intelligence.

OnPoint Weather provides users with analytics grade weather information at hyper-local resolutions. Our proprietary OnPoint Weather system uses deep problem-solving methods on numerous sources of raw weather data from satellites, radar, weather stations, weather models, Internet of Things (IoT) devices, sensors, and other sources to create a meteorologically accurate weather dataset designed from the ground up for use in business analytics or machine learning applications.

The OnPoint Grid supports nearly 2,000,000 global points which means you can access weather information that is truly local to your location of interest. Comparatively, there are only about 3,500 airport weather stations that provide routine observations, and these airports can be hundreds of miles apart and too far from your location of interest to be meaningful or actionable.

In addition to OnPoint Weather, OnPoint Climatology is also available in AWS Data Exchange. OnPoint Climatology provides users with valuable insight into what ‘average’ weather is for any location at any point in time. Understanding the average values enables users to determine if weather values are above or below average and by how much. Another valuable use of the OnPoint Climatology is as a long-range forecast tool. Unlike traditional forecasts that are less reliable for longer time periods, OnPoint Climatology provides a quantified estimate of what weather to expect weeks or months forward.

“Weather Source is excited about the opportunity that AWS Data Exchange presents and we are confident Weather Source’s data will be a valuable addition to AWS Data Exchange. Weather Source’s patent pending data products and solutions are novel and powerful and make it easy for customers to engage in accurate and meaningful data analysis with our comprehensive and hyper-local weather data,” stated Mark Gibbas, CEO of Weather Source.

OnPoint Weather and OnPoint Climatology are available in AWS Data Exchange, where users can quickly and easily view sample data and/or immediately purchase weather data.
